Voluntary Specialist

The VSS assists in all aspects of the development, coordination, and management of the Voluntary Service program, and is responsible for independent management of specific programs.
The incumbent provides support in the overall integration of community based volunteer participation in appropriate areas of medical care and administration functions within the facility.
The VSS is primarily responsible for interviewing, scheduling, placement and evaluation of volunteers for placement throughout the Medical Center and the CBOCs.
This includes consulting with clinical and administrative staff to develop appropriate volunteer assignments; determining schedules; and conducting general orientation programs for new volunteers.
The VSS is responsible for conducting appropriate follow-up activities to assure both adequate supervision and on-the-job training are provided.
The VSS will provide direction and coordinate specific volunteer programs including Escort Service, Information Desks, Student Volunteer program, recruitment and orientation.
The VSS will assure proper training is provided.
The incumbent handles issues as they arise and consults with the Chief, Voluntary Service if policies/procedures require revision.
The VSS is responsible for assuring that favorable interpersonal relations with management, volunteers, community service organizations, staff, and all customers are maintained.
In the absence of the Chief, the incumbent may serve on committees and represent Voluntary Service at meetings, designated functions, special events, or in the community activities.
The VSS works in conjunction with the Chief, Voluntary Service in the planning and execution of a variety of complex internal and external special events such as the Volunteer Recognition Ceremony; National Salute to Hospitalized Veterans; Veterans Day; POW/MIA Recognition; Memorial Day and other programs which are directly related to Voluntary Service.
The VSS will also arrange tours of the facility for special visitors, dignitaries, and community groups as necessary.
He/she will make presentations to a wide variety of groups within the facility and at locations within the community to recruit volunteers, obtain community support, etc.
The VSS under the direction of the Chief, Voluntary Service plans, coordinates, and conducts a wide variety of programs as assigned, such as Volunteer Recognition Programs, Holiday Tree Decorating Project, Recruitment Fairs, Group Volunteer Orientation Programs, VAVS fundraising activities; special event programs.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
