Staff Engineer - Manufacturing (Product Engineer)

SUMMARYThe position of Product Engineer will be required to provide technical interface between the customer and Special Metals Corporation.
Provide materials engineering input and to give direction and guidance in all phases of the product life cycle, from inception through introduction into the marketplace.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSoWork on technical matters relating to nickel alloys.
oAssess and analyze structures of various metals.
oDevelop, establish and document new and improved procedures and methods for metal production.
oEstablish Company process standards.
oInitiate, manage and monitor experimental and product testing projects.
oPerform root-cause failure analysis.
oMonitor alloy performance and evaluate material deterioration.
oProvide engineering direction in order to optimize the production of alloys.
oPerform characterization of new product.
oResponsible for providing technical oversight for specified development programs:
o Technical advice to customers and overall technical assistance to the Company's Manufacturing Department in selected product lines.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIESoAccomplishes all tasks as appropriate.
QUALIFICATIONSEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEoBS in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering or Materials Science.
oOne to three years of experience in a manufacturing (alloys) environment.
SPECIAL SKILLSoStrong knowledge of the principles and practices VAR/VIM/ESR melting, Hot & Cold Rolling, Forging and Extrusion.
oFamiliar with metallurgy principles and equipment for the purpose of tracking and implementing internal changes.
oConduct necessary experimental work to verify concepts, establish mill capacity in order to produce and obtain customer validation to ensure product development and implementation.
